Qtel Telex Services

Though overtaken by fax and higher speed switched data services, Telex still continues to be used for some business applications by over 300 customers, due to its reliability and time-proven usefulness as an acknowledged text-oriented service.

This exchange was commissioned in 1993 at a cost of QR. 13 million providing digital switching to all telex subscribers (both national and international). The system is programmed to access around 300 destinations via 13 international routes. This new exchange provides many customer facilities, value added extras and multi-media and telematic services such as:
  • Multi address transmission concurrently to seven destinations
  • Conference calls
  • Confidential broadcast call facilities
  • Message re-routing function
  • Announcement message facility
  • Store and forward facility
  • Access to mail box
It provides high speed datacom applications requiring greater digital band width.
